Here’s a quick refresher of the buttons sent to me by my swap partner Renetha of Lamplight Crafts. you can see the original post of the buttons arrival here and the ideas I was considering here.
What you can’t see from the photo here is that all of the buttons baring one (Renetha’s handmade pearl beaded button) are shanked buttons. Shanked buttons, I’ve found, are tricky. I know, I could have cut the shanks off, but their buttons! Cutting the shank off would have turned them into cabochons, and this is a button challenge.
As soon as I saw Renetha’s pearl beaded button I knew exactly what I wanted to do with it. This winter I intend to crochet a cream wool cowl for myself and I wanted a lovely “vintagey” (spellcheck tells me that “vintagey” is not a word *sound of a raspberry*) scarf pin and that button was perfect!
I’ve paired it with a piece of gold filigree and a scarf pin (silver I know, but I didn’t have any gold ones left). I’m declaring this a WIP, it needs something extra on top and bottom. I’ll post the finished product when I’ve worked out exactly what the “extra” is. It will look gorgeous pinned to a lightweight (4ply I think) cream cowl.
The second project, which I have completed is a bracelet. I saw so many great bracelets on the Wrapped Stacked and Layered Bracelet Hop I had to try out the Tribal Gypsy Bangle Stack tutorial (now that a mouthful, try saying that quickly!).
I used one of the porcelain buttons from Pat Antonick that my button swap partner sent me and ceramic beads from Gaea and sari silk from Mudhound Studio.
There seems to be an smudge on the button that is not there IRL. Very puzzling! Please forgive the photo, natural light is scarce at the moment and I can’t seem the adjust the white balance in Photoshop without messing up the other colours. Obviously I need to either learn more about my camera or more about Photoshop.
I can’t wait to see what my swap partner Renetha has made with the buttons I sent to her, for that matter I can’t wait to start “hopping” to check out all the other participants. Please visit Cindy for a list of everyone taking part, it’s a long list as everyone is listed twice with their partner.
My thanks to Cindy for organising this Button Swap and Blog Hop, you’re amazing!
