Waiting…and some Button Swap Ideas

Button Swap

Way back in March I signed up for ButtonSwap_Blog-Hop_opt1the Button swap blog hop at Sweet Bead Studio. Cindy is the host this year and paired us up with our swap partners. As I was quite happy to post some of my large button stash overseas I was partnered with Renetha at LamplightCrafts.

Renetha’s in the US and I was a bit concerned at how long the mail would take to deliver my buttons to her. I needn't have worried as I have the advantage of and extra 12-17hrs time difference, and overnight express to international sorting here in Australia (secret mail wrangling business, lol).

Of course, mail coming to me from overseas has the reverse problem, and a public holiday on top of that. The postie won’t know what’s hit him, I have several deliveries expected in the next fortnight or so.

I’m expecting Renetha’s buttons any day now and in the meantime I thought I’d share some of the ideas I’ve been considering.

Idea 1

I’m a bit of a stationery freak so this idea is a serious contender. Even if I don’t make this for the blog hop I probably will at a later date.

You’ll need a fairly strong glue to secure the buttons to the cover of the notebook. If you like you could probably tweak the design to show a monogram in your favourite colour button.

Idea 2

This is one of my favourite ideas. If your feeling a bit creative with lettering you could use almost any font on the web. Just print out a large enough stencil and glue your choice of button colours. I’ve seen this done on pillows and cushions, almost anything that’s relatively flat.

I really like the combination of textures. The natural look of the frame, the textured material and the MOP buttons all give this a really elegant look.

Idea 3

How about adding a bit of colour to a flowerless indoor plant! This idea would be perfect for African Violets, I can never get them to flower. It’s a great way to use bright buttons from your stash, layering them for more interest and colour.

Idea 4

Here’s a novel idea for those extra huge buttons that sit in your button jar. I have more than a few of these, the largest being 4cm or so. Buttons that large are usually coat buttons and are shankless, which make them ideal for this project.

All it needs is two buttons, scrapbooking paper and glue. I think I would add some small photos to this project and turn it into a mini photo brag book. By adding a bail and chain you could then wear it as a pendant, the only problem to solve then would be how to keep it closed.

These are just a few of my ideas for the button swap, plenty more on Pinterest and elsewhere.

Postie has been and gone today and still no sign of my swap partner Renetha’s buttons. At least I know I have plenty of ideas when they do arrive, all of my other potential project ideas for the button swap are quite do-able and I have most of the supplies ready to go
