I did however, hold on to two jewellery busts, decidedly shabby ones at that. So, on Sunday I attempted to re-vamp them. Have you every tried to re-cover a bust? There are curves and dips that do not want to be covered smoothly. The first small bust I managed to ruin, I used super tac glue and trying to take the fabric off will probably destroy it. I’ll have to brainstorm a rescue for it (maybe Papier-mâché).
The larger bust I managed to cover quite nicely. I used an old cream cotton napkin/serviette. The secret to covering these tricky shaped things is placing them “on the cross” or “on the bias”, which if you are not a sewer, is diagonally across the warp and weft of the weave. This gives you the ability to stretch the fabric around the curves.
Not bad if I do say do myself :) One thing I want to do though is replace the base, (sorry about the rhyme) it feels a little unstable.
Next on the list was a way to display earrings. Here I used a very small framed canvas that came with it’s own easel. I bought quite a number of them last year to display my daughter’s zentangles. I’m sure she won’t mind if I borrow one of the easels when I photograph my earrings.
So there you have it. Later on today I’ll take the photo’s for the Suddenly Spring Challenge. I will be posting my contribution to the challenge later on this evening, apparently Australia is 17 hours or so ahead of US time, so 11.30pm Adelaide time (or thereabouts) my post will go “live”. Don’t forget to visit the other participants and please feel free to leave any comments below.
Time for me to go now, I still have to track down some presents for the eldest’s 18th birthday. All suggestions welcome!
